Step Two:  Grant Proposal

After your Letter of Inquiry has been reviewed, you will receive another email notifying you if the Foundation would like to receive a full proposal from your organization. If your organization is asked to submit a Grant Proposal:

  • The email will contain a link to the required online application.  You will need your original Sign In account information from your Step One: Letter of Inquiry to access the Grant Proposal.
  •  In most cases, you will hear from us within two (2) weeks of the Letter of Inquiry submission deadline.  

Before You Begin

We suggest the following steps prior to your accessing the online application:

  • Review and print a hard copy of the Grant Proposal Application click here  (Note:  This copy is not a fillable form, however, you may use it to familiarize yourself with the questions you will be asked throughout the application as well as a guide for gathering required attachments.)

Grant Proposal Application Process

The online Grant Proposal works just like the online Letter of Inquiry that you previously completed.  You have the same ability to "Save and Finish Later", "View a Printer Friendly Version" and "Review" your work prior to your final submission.  You also have the option to "Email a Draft" to our office for review and feedback prior to your final submission.  As with the Letter of Inquiry, you may draft your responses outside of the online application in Word format and then Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) responses into the online application.

1: Using the link that was sent to you and the information that you used to create your online account, Log In to your account by selecting the "I am a returning online applicant."

2:  Information will be automatically transferrred into the Grant Proposal application based upon the information you provided through your online Letter of Inquiry.

3:  Complete the required sections of the application.  Please note that each section has specific word limits.  The combined word limits are the cumulative equivalent to six (6) typed pages.  If you do not complete the required sections of the application you will not be able to submit your form.  Emailing a Draft - To submit a draft of your proposal for comments and feedback prior to your final submission, please follow the directions as outlined here. Proposal drafts will be reviewed and returned within one week of their submission date.

4:  Upload the required documents.  To see a list of required electronic and hard copy attachments, click here.

5:  Review your application for spelling and accuracy.  Once you are satsified with your application, click "Submit".  You will receive an email confirmation that we have received your application.  Note:  Your application will not be considered complete until we have received your required hard copy attachments.

Grant Proposal Review

All organizations being considered for a Grant Award will be contacted by either a Knott Foundation Trustee or staff member to schedule a site visit.  Site Visits are generally conducted within 45 days of the proposal deadline.  To read some tips on how to have a great site visit, click here.

Final Decisions

Final grant decisions are made by our Grant Committee approximately 10 weeks after the cycle's proposal deadline.  To see an estimated notification date for your grant cycle, click here.  Applicants will be notified by phone as to the committee's final decision.

  • Applicants who are approved for funding are required to submit Interim (6 month) and Post Grant (12 month) Reports.  These organizations must also wait two (2) years before reapplying for funding consideration.
  • Applicants who are not approved for funding must wait one (1) year before resubmitting.
