Grant Guidelines
Applications are accepted from organizations in Baltimore City and in the following Maryland counties:
Allegany, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Frederick, Garrett, Harford, Howard, Washington
Organizations located outside these geographic areas are not eligible for grants.
Grant categories
- Education (Catholic and nonsectarian, nonpublic schools specifically catering to special education needs)
- The Foundation will continue to consider private colleges and universities as well as educational programs offered by social and human service organizations
- Human Services
- Health Care
- Catholic Activities
- Arts and Humanities
Projects funded
- New and/or ongoing programs
- Operating expenses
- Technology
- Capital expenses
- Development
Not funded
- Reimbursable(s) or any prior expenses
- Organizations in operation for less than one year
- Scholarships
- Public school education and public sector agencies
- Pro-choice or reproductive health programs
- Individuals
- Annual giving
- Political activities
- One-time-only events, seminars, or workshops
- Legal services
- Environmental activities
- Medical research
- Child day care centers
- Endowment funds for arts and humanities
- National or local chapters for specific diseases
- Agencies that redistribute grant funds to nonprofits
Size and duration of awards
The average grant is between $35,000 and $45,000 per year; multi-year grants are seldom awarded. All construction or renovation work must be competitively bid, and copies of project bids, required permits, licenses, and signed contracts are necessary before funds are released.
Reporting
Interim reports are due six months after grant award. Post-grant reports are due one year after grant award.
Reapplying
Organizations denied funding can reapply after one year. Funded organizations can reapply after 2 years.
